Herta Pollak

Herta Pollak was born in Germany, spent time in Danzig, and then settled with her parents in Milan, Italy. She received a great deal of help from her Italian neighbors throughout the War years. After the German occupation, her father was sent to the Ferramonte Concentration Camp. She was able to visit him there, and so can describe the vast difference between this Italian camp and those camps run by the Germans, to which, fortunately, her father was never deported. Herta and her mother survived using false papers and then later by going into hiding. After liberation, she met and married Branko Pollak and moved with him to the United States.
